The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition with Blue Eyed North Pole Pixie-Elf - is it worth the money

The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition with Blue Eyed North Pole Pixie-Elf is one of the most popular toy during the holiday season. Parents say that the little stuffed Elf has helped a lot in keeping their kids well-behaved through Christmas Day. Is it all fine and dandy with this popular holiday gift ? Cautionista finds out-

  • Some parents are of the opinion that the Elf on the Shelf only helps to keep their kids behaved until Christmas. They return to their original behavior right after receiving their gifts. Some say that the suppressed behavior during the pre-Santa period actually makes the kids return to their original self with even more force once the Elf's influence is over.
  • Some moms think that the Elf on the Shelf is too pricey for what's included in the package. The stuffed  Elf toy seems to be of mediocre build quality, not much better than a stuffed toy from McDonalds.
  • Moms who are strict about what their kids learn say that making up lies about what the Elf can do goes against their values.
  • Many parents think that it's a pain to relocate the Elf to new places each night. They forget on many occasions and the kids are disappointed to see the Elf at the same location, contrary to what the accompanying story book says.
  • Some moms and dads are of the opinion that the story that comes with the Elf on the Shelf is not of a good theme. It seems some 5-year old kids could see right through the Elf's story and asked the parents right away if the whole thing was real.

Does this Elf deserve to be on your shelf ?

At Cautionista, we think that this popular holiday is a good value only if sold under ten dollars. There seems to be a much better (and cheaper) product for your kids with similar theme - Pop In Kins Elf Pop-In-Kins Christopher Bookset.
